Exercise Tips for people with Fibromyalgia



Fibromyalgia is a disorder with a collection of symptoms which are chronic and often fluctuate throughout a day.  The list of symptoms are extensive such as:

  • Chronic muscle pain
  • Tender trigger points
  • Sleep disturbances, restless leg syndrome, sleep apnea
  • Fatigue and decreased energy
  • Mood swings
  • Tension headaches
  • Anxiety
  • Depression

A Few Tips:

  • Start and progress with exercise very slowly
  • Because pain moves around it is hard to plan out your exercise sessions- make a plan based on how you are feeling that day
  • Morning exercise may work better than later in the day
  • Applying heat may alleviate some symptoms
  • Focus on deep breathing, stretching and relaxation
