Best abdominal and back exercises for 50+
We have almost made it to the end of February and spring is around the corner. Are you confused about how best to work the different parts of your abdominal muscles in a safe way?
Your abdominals include your rectus abdominis which is the “6 pack” that runs down the front of your waist, your internal and external obliques which run alongside your body and your transverse abdominis which is a deep muscle just below your belt line. It is important that all of these muscles are properly strengthened to reduce risk of injury and gain strength and stability.
Your lower back muscles include your erector spinae and quadratus lumborum. One of the biggest mistakes that people make is to ignore their lower back muscles when they are working their core.
Spirit 50 (on-line personal training for 50+) coaches Dee Simpson and Erin Billowits show you the best exercises to work all of the more important muscles in your core in these two videos.
Good Luck,
Erin Billowits
