What Is Virtual Training for Seniors?

Complete Guide to Online Personal Fitness
Have you ever wondered about virtual training? Perhaps you don't have access to a personal trainer or gym in your area, but maybe having someone come to your house isn't ideal, either (introverts - I'm looking at you). That's where virtual training comes in. Technology allows us to train you via a computer or handheld device, wherever you are in the world, without having to set foot inside your home! No tech savviness or special equipment is required, and anyone can do it. And yes, you still have your own dedicated seniors' fitness specialist to work with you live and one-on-one - they'll just be a little…smaller. ;)
Seniors can benefit from virtual personal training just as much as in-person training, with the same personalized workouts focused on improving strength, balance, and stamina from the comfort of home. Our specialized trainers still create custom plans just for you, with the goal of providing safe, effective, and enjoyable fitness support tailored to your specific needs.
How Virtual Training Compares to In-Person Training
So how is virtual training different from in-person training? Aside from the obvious (being on screen instead of in person), there's really not much difference. Both include programs that focus on strength training, flexibility, cardiovascular exercises, and specific fall prevention and balance training. And before starting any program, your personal trainer will assess your current fitness level, medical history, and goals to create a customized exercise routine.

Getting Started with Virtual Training: Simple Setup in 3 Steps
Starting virtual training might feel intimidating if you've never done it before, but after one session you'll be a pro. We're here to guide you through the simple setup process, which you will find quick and easy.
Step One: Using the Platform
- You will receive an email with a link to follow to the Zoom virtual meeting platform.
- Download Zoom in advance of your session; your trainer can guide you step by step through the process if you need help, but it's simple, we promise!
- Your trainer will provide you with a link to the private 'meeting room' you will use for your sessions.
Step Two: Physical Set-Up
- Position your computer or device so that it has a good view of the spot where you'll be doing your exercises - your trainer will need to see you clearly.
- Make sure the volume is turned up to an appropriate level.
- Ensure lighting is adequate.
- Remove any tripping hazards from your exercise area.
Step Three: Starting the Session
- Click on the meeting link previously provided to you by your trainer. It will open Zoom on your computer or device and your trainer will meet you in your private meeting room at the appointed time.
- They will virtually guide you through your training session, going over each exercise, including form, duration and frequency, while providing feedback just like they would in person.
- You will be able to see and hear both yourself and your trainer on your computer screen.

But don't take our word for it - check out this testimonial from Emmanuel, who trains all the way from Switzerland with Vintage Fitness trainer Murray!
"I am glad to take the opportunity to tell you how happy I am with our sessions. Murray is very patient and helps in every way possible despite the many kilometres that separate his place from ours in Switzerland. His vast experience and maturity are both real assets as this means that I benefit from a proper, well centered example every time."

Frequently Asked Questions About Virtual Training
Is virtual training as effective as in-person training?
Yes! Virtual training provides the same personalized attention, expert guidance, and customized workouts as in-person training. Your trainer can see you in real-time through the video connection, observe your form, provide corrections, and adjust exercises as needed. Many clients find they get equally great results with the added convenience of training from home.
What if I'm not tech-savvy? Can I still do virtual training?
Absolutely! You don't need to be tech-savvy at all. We use Zoom, which is very user-friendly, and we'll guide you through the entire setup process step-by-step. Most clients are surprised at how simple it is. If you can make a video call with your grandchildren, you can do virtual training! We're always just a phone call away if you need help: (866) 471-0109.
Do I need special equipment for virtual training?
Not at all! You just need a device with a camera (computer, tablet, or smartphone), internet connection, a sturdy chair, and a bit of space to move. Your trainer will work with whatever you have at home. If you'd like to add simple, affordable equipment later (like light weights or resistance bands), your trainer can make recommendations.
How much does virtual training cost?
Virtual training is often more affordable than in-person training since there's no travel time for the trainer. We offer various packages to fit different budgets and schedules. Call us at (866) 471-0109 or book a free consultation to discuss pricing options that work for you.
Can virtual training help with specific conditions like arthritis or balance issues?
Yes! Our trainers specialize in working with seniors who have various health conditions, including arthritis, osteoporosis, balance problems, and post-surgical recovery. We'll create a safe, customized program that addresses your specific needs and limitations. Your trainer will work closely with you to ensure every exercise is appropriate and beneficial.
What if I live outside Toronto? Can I still train with Vintage Fitness?
Definitely! That's one of the great benefits of virtual training—location doesn't matter. We have clients across Canada and even internationally (like Emmanuel in Switzerland!). As long as you have internet access, you can train with our certified senior fitness specialists regardless of where you live.
Stay strong,
Leigh
