As the weather starts to warm it is a great time to reflect on all of the everyday choices that we make in our lives that either better or are a detriment to our health. As part of the Wellness toolkit there is a presentation all about healthy living including an active lifestyle helps prevent various health conditions including: heart disease, stroke, osteoporosis, and type 2 diabetes. Physical activity builds strength, flexibility and coordination that reduce risk of falls and injuries.

Dieting alone may not prevent diabetes

Low skeletal muscle mass and strength (sarcopenia) often found in obese people and older adults increases the chances of type 2 diabetes. A study done at the University of California with 4654 people over 60 and 9346 from 20-60 years old showed that sarcopenia is associated with insulin resistance and high blood sugar levels in obese and thin people.
